Hello and welcome to how I built this lab. I'm Guy Raz. So back in the late nineteen seventies. David Kelly founded a product design firm. He helped Steve Jobs design the first Apple computer mouse, and eventually David would merge his design firm with two others to create. Ideal. Ideo went on to design

thousands of products, everything from nerve footballs that always fly in a spiral. to toothbrushes with squishy handles to the interface inside the Ford F-150. But today, IBO mainly helps companies design their culture and establish a design forward mindset to trigger innovation. David Kelly isn't just the founder of Ideo, but also the founder of the Design School at Stanford. And to say he's a legendary figure in the world of design is almost an understatement. His work has influenced everything from how designers think about user experience to how companies think about hierarchy. and his first job out of college? As an engine at Boeing in the early nineteen seventies,

working on a particularly important part of Boeing's 747 aircraft. I was in what's called the passenger payloads group. That means the interior. And um W if you you know, you're a big company, you break it down even further. So I'm in lights and signs.
