Welcome to How Leaders Lead, I'm Kula Callahan, here to bring you another episode of Three More Questions with David Novak. And these episodes we debrief the conversation that David had with the previous week's guest. And today we've got a really fun one. I love anytime we get to talk about sports on the podcast. And today is one of those days. David, we're debriefing the conversation you had with Pat Battle. He is the executive chairman of Diamond Baseball Holdings, which I was unaware that they own
A gigantic number of minor league teams. Absolutely. I think the number's on its way to fifty and uh they're basically rolling up the industry and doing it with world class uh Marketing and people and their approach is right on the money and they're being very successful because of it. Another reason that I really like this podcast episode is because in the lightning round you ask him what would be on the radio in his car if you turned it on. And he said, Sweet home, Alabama by Leonard Skinnard, baby. So I love having another fellow Bammer. On the podcast, his father was actually athletic director at the University of Alabama for a number of years. So I just I feel deeply connected to this man, though I've never met him. I'm glad you feel really good about the roll tide.
I don't think much of'em since they killed my Missouri football team this last year. So anyway, let's move on to a brighter subject. Well, we've got some fun questions for you today, David. Let's get going. Question number one. When Pat and his team at Diamond Baseball Holdings made their first acquisition, it was of 10 minor league baseball teams. And at the time, it was something that no private equity company had ever done before. And he talks about that announcement being met with a lot of fear of the unknown. David, as a leader, when you do something that's never been done before, how do you prepare for potential pushback? Well, I think, Coolie, you have to look at the potential of the business and really understand what that is. and be able to articulate it to your team.
