Hello and welcome to Empire with me, Anita Arnand. And me, William DeRimple. Now over the next three episodes, what we're going to do is uh we're going to take you to the place we've been promising for quite some time because for the last three episodes We've been talking about the Bronze Age collapse, and here it is. We've seen those sophisticated, interconnected fingers that stretch in between these different kingdoms, making this uh tapestry world.
And it's been um it's been a chance for us to explore Mycenae, it's been a chance to explore Troy and to examine how Homer, perhaps, preserve the memories of a lost world, if not the actual facts of what happened, which was a shock to me. So that's what we're going to do. That's why we're here, to understand what really happened today. And to guide us through this territory, we have the wonderful Eric Klein, Professor Eric Klein, whose books have kept me very happy over Christmas.
I read both of them in Kerala and just finished the last chapter, the last one today, and they are absolutely wonderful. 1177 BC, the year civilization collapsed, has been a massive international bestseller. And after 1177 BC comes with an even rarer uh thing, which is a a a nice quote from my friend Nassim Nicholas Tallib, who's not known for his happy adjectives. Anyone who follows him on Twitter will know he's an irrascible fellow when he wants to be. But here he is, and he loved this book.
