Almost none of the sex humans have ever had is reproductive, even before there was hormonal contraception. There was not a statistically significant relationship between frequency of sex and number of pregnancies. Okay. So almost none of the sex we have is reproductive. Its primary function for us as a species is as a social behavior. Hello and welcome. I'm Shane Parrish and this is The Knowledge Project, a podcast exploring the ideas, methods, and mental models that help you master the best of what other people have already figured out.
To learn more and stay up to date on new episodes, go to fs.blog slash podcast. Furnham Street puts together a weekly newsletter that I think he'll love. Called Brain Food comes out every Sunday. And much like this podcast, it's high signal. Timeless and mind expanding. Read what you're missing at fs.blog slash newsletter. Today I'm speaking with Emily Nagoski.
Sex therapist and author of the amazing book, Come As You Are. Emily, as you'll discover, is nothing short of incredible. And as you might have guessed, we're gonna talk about sex. This is a different type of conversation than we've ever had on the Knowledge before. I'm gonna warn you in advance that the language and subject matter of this episode is not appropriate for all ages. If you're easily offended or don't want to hear about sex, turn this off right now. If you have kids in the car or nearby, I suggest you pre-screen this episode before letting them listen.
We already have this episode, so unlocking it is cheap and permanent: the full transcript, segment and word-level timestamps, and .txt, .srt, .vtt and word-level JSON downloads, as many times as you like, forever.
10 free credits is 10 episodes like this one a month. Episodes nobody has transcribed yet cost their length in hours, because we have to actually transcribe them.
