Copy the link in Apple Podcasts
- On iPhone or iPad: open the episode, tap the three dots, then Share Episode, then Copy Link.
- On a Mac: in the Podcasts app, click the three dots next to the episode, then Share, then Copy Link.
- In a browser: copy the address of the episode page on podcasts.apple.com.
The link tells us the episode and its show. We find it in the show's public feed, the same file every podcast app plays, and transcribe that.
Why not just use the transcript in the app?
If Apple shows one, it is a fine way to follow along while you listen. Getting the text out is another matter: Apple lets you copy up to 200 words at a time (with a link back added), there is no download, and you need the Apple Podcasts app to see it at all.
- All of it at once: select everything, or download the file.
- Every format: plain text, text with timestamps, .srt and .vtt subtitles, and word-level JSON.
- Any device: it is a web page, so Windows and Android work too.
- Episodes Apple shows no transcript for: shows that switched them off, languages Apple does not transcribe, and very long episodes.
Price
$1 an episode, whatever its length, and it stays yours. No subscription; packs and plans are cheaper per episode if you read a lot.
